WESTON ANSON APPOINTED CO-CHAIRMAN FOR THE ASSET SALES COMMITTEE FOR THE AMERICAN BANKRUPTCY INSTITUTE (ABI)

The American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) is the largest multi-disciplinary, non-partisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency.  The ABI was founded in 1982 to provide Congress and the public with unbiased analysis of bankruptcy issues.

The Asset Sales Committee is one of a handful of key committees within the ABI organization – the committee is charged with monitoring trends and activities in asset sales of all types from machinery to real estate, and most importantly, including intangible assets and intellectual property.  In making the announcement of Mr. Anson’s appointment, the president of ABI stated that as American industry is increasingly dependent on its intangible asset base, it is important that the committee have a chairman whose career and professional focus is specifically on the issues of value, disposal, reinvigoration, and liquidation of intangible assets and intellectual property.

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF A CELEBRITY ESTATE OR CELEBRITY IMAGE??

"Weston Anson, of CONSOR, values music celebrities and estates, as well as entertainment properties for a living.  In this article he offers two case studies from his practice."

What`s It Worth: Putting a Figure on a Musician`s Estate and Celebrity Image

This article looks at two real world case studies based on the author`s practice at an intellectual asset consulting firm.

The first case study considers the value of a music library and a musician`s estate, after the death of that musician, and asks: what is the value of a body of work, including music copyrights and future tour income?

The second case study examines the value of celebrity images.  The valuation was done in the context of a lawsuit by two celebrities against a consumer goods company.

The “article” was also the basis for a recent statewide CLE program on the valuation of celebrity rights.  That program was chaired by Weston Anson and Michael Einhorn of CONSOR, and was broadcast live to all intellectual property attorneys in the state.

Copies of both the article and the CLE program are available by clicking below.
